Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my zero readers out there! Most of us Brits have an image of football and Thanksgiving in our heads that goes something like this…

ImageSo, there are normally three games played on Thanksgiving, always between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, the rest come from other teams in the league.

It all started at College Football level, and as no doubt we’ll see, College Football has a major following in the US, not like here where students trek up to a rainy astro-turf pitch at an out-of-town uni. So, in 1876 Yale and Princeton challenged each other on Thanksgiving.

The teams also sometimes wear throwback uniforms, like the Denver Broncos here back in 2009 – nice socks.

This year, we have the pleasure of watching :

Houston Texans at Detroit Lions

Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys

New England Patriots at New York Jets

Obviously we need the Patriots to lose here…

That’s another weird thing, here in the UK for all team sports the team name listed first is playing at home, Aston Villa vs Man United (bastards), but in American Football, the hosts come second, San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos. Another unexplained phenomenon of this sport…
